UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER INTERACTS WITH CHIEFS

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo has started a ten-day visit of paramount chiefs in the region. The visit afforded the minister to interact with the chiefs and elders to introduce himself to them as well as spelt out his vision for the region. Paramouncies being visited include kayoro, Chiana, Sandema, Paga, Kologo, Mirigu, Sakoti, and Bawku. Addressing the president of the upper east regional house of chiefs, Pio Charles Awampaga who is also the paramount chief of Paga at his palace, Mr Woyongo told the Paga Pio that he will draw a comprehensive development plan to address poverty alleviation and other problems facing the region. The regional minister said the region can only be developed in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. He commended paramouncies in the region who have over the years maintained peace. Mr. Woyongo however appealed to the people of Bawku to give peace a chance. The president of the upper regional house of chiefs Pio Awampaga thanked the minister for the visit. The regent of Sandema Pio Alex Atampoure however, called on the government to help reduce prices of fertilizer and also bring more tractors to the area to enhance development of agriculture in the area. The regional minister promised to construct more dams in addition to the existing dams to boost irrigation system in the region. He also gave the assurance that work on Kayoro-Sandema-Paga road would soon commence and his outfit will see to its execution before his term of office ends.
