Fountain Gate Int. School holds 2nd Graduation Ceremony

Narration: The Fountain Gate International School has held its 2nd annual graduation ceremony and prize giving day at Bolgatanga with a call on parents to get involve in their wards education since it is the best legacy they can bequeath their children. The Director of the school, Rosemond Anaba who made the call described the apathetic nature of some parents towards their wards education as worrying, and admonished parents to show keen interest in the education of their wards to the latter. This she said is one of the surest ways children could be nurtured to become responsible citizen. This year’s graduation ceremony was held to enable the sixth grade pupils’ transit from the basic level to the Juniors High school. Correspondent Isaac Asare sat through the event and has filed this report for Radio Ghana.

Established in September, 1999 as a faith based school, the Fountain Gate International School, a subsidiary of the Fountain Gate chapel, has the vision to develop the child in a holistic manner so as to make an impact in the generation. With a humble beginning, the school has since its inception continued to exhibit sterling academic excellence due to the high level of discipline, vigilance and team work of the staff. Last year, the school received a Presidential award for the 2009/2010 academic year, whilst majority of the candidates that wrote the 2010 Basic Education Certificate Exams, BECE qualified to gain admission into the various second cycle institutions in the country. The award went to one, Master Joseph Akologo, who obtained 5 out of the six subjects registered during the exams. As a result of the school’s academic performance, enrolment has increased over the past two years with the current student population standing at a little over 700, though it began with only 100 pupils with 4 classrooms. The Director of the school, Mrs. Rosemond Anaba, attributed the continuous academic success of the school to level of excellent tuition and discipline imbued in the students. She also mentioned character building as the hallmark of the school, stressing that the school is in the process of setting up a curriculum to enroll students in character education. This, she explained, would contribute in building moral values in the children. Mrs. Anaba admonished parents to assist in the academic works of their wards and not shirk their responsibilities on teachers alone. According to her, the prospect of the school looks bright since plans are far advance to elevate it to the status of a university. She encouraged students to remain focus in their studies and not to forfeit their ambitions in life. A member of the school board, Rev. Michael Ayikade, in a brief remark admonished parents and guardians to prioritize their wards education and instill in them moral uprightness so that they can grow with it. Rev Ayikade cautioned students against moral vices such as viewing of pornography, internet fraud and other negative activities that have the tendency undermining their God given potentials. He also pledged the board’s financial support to the school and appealed to the PTA to assist in the regard. The entire teaching staff were also encouraged to maintain the image of the school though hard work and dedication. In all 39 students were awarded with certificates of excellence, whilst prizes were given to deserving students that excelled in various academic fields. Participants were treated with drumming and dances as well as poetry recitals by students of the school.
