to as a matter of concern expedite action in giving meaning to its promise of
rehabilitating the abandoned Benyim dam in order to enable farmers undertake a
large scale of agricultural activities to earn a living. This was contained in
a statement signed by the leadership of the Benyim Small Holder Co-operative
Farmers’ Society. According to the statement, farmers over the years have been
confronted with the problem of inadequate provision of irrigation facilities,
especially dams to enable them get water to embark on large scale farming
activities in the municipality. It further explained that the recent low food
production, food security and lack of sustainable income and economic progress
for small-scale farmer in the community is attributed to the unavailability of
irrigation, adding that farmers find it quite difficult to embark on the
numerous vegetables production such as tomatoes, pepper, onions, cabbage among
others in the dry season. It however appealed to the government to heed to the
pressure of the poor farmers’ demand for irrigation dam since that can help
