Upper East: Easter festivity characterised by series of conventions and retreats

Churches in the Upper East Region have climaxed this year’s Easter festivity with series of conventions and retreats.

The period which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ saw the laity and Christ believers in jubilant mood to express their profound gratitude to God for seeing them throughout the year.

Addressing a large congregation to end its 4-day Easter convention, the General Overseer of Living Waters Community Chapel International, Apostle Paul Thiombiano admonished Christians to live above reproach and refrain from corruption among deviant behaviours that are inimical to the growth and development of the country.

Background

This year’s event attracted the clergy and representatives from other sister churches on the theme: ‘Destroying Evil Altars’.  In attendance were various worshippers including guests from the USA.

Dressed in resplendent white attire, the large congregation danced and praised God to glorify his unflinching love for mankind and to extol the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There were an excellent display of choreography and other special church activities to spice up the event.

Delivering a sermon, the General Overseer of Living Waters Community Chapel International, Apostle Paul Thiombiano urged Christians to live in the fullness of God and co-exist peacefully just as Christ laid down his life in atonement for the sins of mankind.

Narrowing his delivery on happenings in Ghana, Apostle Thiombiano observed that for the country to assume the path of progress, Christians have a role to play by keeping their thoughts and minds off activities that impedes the growth and development of the nation. `

Reverend Richard Maher from the USA branch of the church described the Easter festivity as a historical event that should constantly remind Christians about the story behind the resurrection and the power it carries to transform the lives of individuals and nations.

At Bukere, hundreds of worshippers from the Bolgatanga branch of the Church of Pentecost also converged on the Awogeya school park to climax its 4 –day Easter Convention on the theme : 'Maranatha’.

In a brief sermon, the Bolgatanga Area Pastor, Apostle Wilberforce Kwame Nkrumah said Easter signifies a new life for Christians and all mankind and therefore should not overlook the day but instead draw closer to God in order to enjoy his fullness.

His submission was echoed by the resident pastor, Rev James Agyin who entreated all believers to go all out and propagate the gospel of Christ the lost and the oppressed.

The area presbytery later seized the platform to honour some church members and congregations who by dint of hard work managed to increase the membership of the church in the year under review.

The ultimate prize went to 77 year old Baba Lucky who took home a tricycle.
