The NAFAC ground was the venue for this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festival in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga.

Correspondent Isaac Asare reports that hundreds of orthodox Muslims converged on the ground to observe the day which is in memory of Prophet Ibrahim and his act of submission to sacrifice his son in surrender to the will of God.

The day which also marks the end of the Hajj to Mecca began with a prayer to offer thanks to Allah for renewing their faith in Him.

In a sermon, the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Adam, advised Muslims to renew their faith in Allah and show love and compassion at all times.

He entreated the entire Muslim community to be law abiding and pray for the success of the nation.

The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Syme, implored Muslims to be at peace with each other and make sacrifices for mankind towards the progress and development of their communities and the nation at large.

He used the occasion to request for prayers for those that recently died in Mecca while performing the Hajj rights.

Present to grace the occasion was the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Mr Asiedu Nketia said his presence at the event was indicative of his belief and respect for every religion in the country.

He said Eid-ul-Adha signifies the importance of sacrifice, stressing that those who have in abundance should demonstrate their willingness to benefit the less privileged.

The General Secretary also seized the opportunity to congratulate all Muslims and urged them to work towards the maintenance of peace as the nation gears up for the next general elections.

Other Muslim sects in the region  including the Tijania's observed the day at separate venues.
