Leaders advised to be wary of Sycophants

Narration:   The Chairperson of the Upper Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Esmond Nagba, had cautioned political and religious leaders to be wary of those he referred to as sycophants. 

He said most often, people holding positions of trust fail in their duties as leaders because they are coached by people who do not share in their vision. 

He observed that such people contribute to the woes of visionary leaders through their corrupt practices. 

To him, they serve as counsellors and advisors whereas in actual sense they are detractors serving as agents of destructions. Rev Nagba, expressed the sentiments in an interview with Radio Ghana..



            Upper Presbytery inducts New District Minister
Meanwhile, the Upper Presbytery led by the Chairperson, Rev Esmond Nagba, has inducted Reverend James Kwame Awuni, as the new District Minister in-charge of the Bolgatanga Peniel Presbyterian Church. 

Dignitaries including the National Director of the Development and Social Services of the church, Rev. Daniel Edmund Kofi Asante and other congregational heads were present at the occasion. 

Also in attendance were family and friends of the new minister. Rev Kwame Awuni succeeds Rev. Amegyei Antwi, who is now the District Minister for Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery in the Eastern Region. 

 In a sermon to usher in the new minister, Rev Nagba urged the congregation not to live careless lifestyles bearing in mind there can never be tomorrow. 

He said heaven is real and therefore behooves them as  Christ believers to live under the dictates of Christ in order to meet the Lord in heaven. 

Rev Nagba moreover admonished the congregation to prepare themselves adequately for the second coming of Christ by letting their daily lives be guided by the virtue of truth, humility, patience and steadfastness. 

This, he noted requires adequate preparation both physically and spiritually.  Rev Nagba, gave positive testimonies of the new minister and prayed that his tenure will bring total transformation to the church.

 He further advised him to remain focused and consider placing the welfare of the presbytery high above all other personal interest. 

In a brief remark, the new district Minister thanked the general assembly for the confidence repose in him. He pledged to raise a democratic and Christ centered church, where members will be nurtured to live a life of true holiness. 

He also promised an open door policy and impressed on the entire presbytery to assist him to succeed by offering constructive advice and criticism where necessary. 

Rev Awuni, currently holds a master degree in Business administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. 

He is married with a wife and 3 children. 

The induction ceremony which was on the theme: ‘Be Filled with the Holy Spirit: Prepare to meet the Lord’, also saw the official ordination of 7 directors of the presbytery who are currently manning the various departments under the church. 

Their responsibility is assist in the day to day activity of the Upper Presbytery and also serve as an advisory body to the Chairperson.
