Bolga Assembly to gazette its existing sanitation bye-laws

Bolgatanga MCE, Philip Adongo Aboore
The new MCE for Bolgatanga Municipal, Philip Adongo Aboore says his tenure will see to the strengthening of the assembly’s existing sanitation bye-laws.

Lamenting on the poor sanitation situation in the municipality, Mr. Aboore said the insanitary condition of the area has become an issue of grave concern and attributed the cause to the failure by the assembly to apply punitive measures against persons that litter indiscriminately due to the lack of enforcement.

According to him, the assembly is fashioning moves to gazette its existing sanitation bye-laws, particularly, those on open defecation and enforce it to the latter.

In doing so, it will also continue with its mass education in the various communities to sensitize the people on the need to exercise sanitary practices.

The MCE gave the assurance in an interview with Radio Ghana's Isaac Asare  after supervising last Saturday's National Sanitation exercise held in Bolgatanga.

The sanitation exercise took the MCE and his team to the Bolgatanga main lorry station, the new market, the central business district and selected dumping sites in the municipality. In attendance were personnel of the various security agencies including the military.

Others present were officials of the Red Cross, Zoomlion, the GPRTU as well as some youth groups from the Muslim and Christian communities.

The MCE said though the exercise was fruitful, the patronage was not that encouraging considering the level of publicity given to the exercise over the weeks.

Mr. Aboore therefore thanked all those that participated in the exercise and appealed to traditional authorities and opinion leaders to partner the assembly in consolidating its advocacy role.
