He blamed the country’s economic woes on the leadership failure of the Mahama led administration and pledged turn the fortunes of the country around by injecting a new life into the economy when given the opportunity to lead the country.
Dr. Mahama brought this to the fore during his "thank you tour" in the Upper East Region.
Dr Mahama in the company of other party stalwarts including the newly elected National Chairman, Bernard Monarh were in Sandema, chiana, Paga, Navrongo, Bawku and Talensi.
GBC's Isaac Asare reports that, Dr Edward Mahama, ddressing the traditional rulers and party's sympathisers on separate platforms, observed that the current economic hardship faced by the lager population has come as a result of sheer deception and nepotism in the current body politics as well as unfulfilled promises made to electorates by leaders of the so-called dominant parties during elections in their quest to recapture power.
He described as regrettable the failure of the NPP and the NDC administrations to bring meaningful development to the country and urged Ghanaians to rally behind the PNC for a better Ghana.
On youth empowerment Dr. Mahama, who annexed the party's flagbearership slot from Hassan Ayariga, the party's 2012 presidential candidate in its recent national delegate congress said his commitment to empower the youth economically is motivated by the fact that the rate of unemployment has pushed majority of the unemployed to indulge in criminal activities and other social vices that are detrimental in destroying their futures and the hopes and aspirations of the country.
He hinted plans by his party to undertake workable interventions that will help tackle the issue of youth unemployment when voted into power.
The five-time Presidential candidate further took a swipe at the current administration’s ineptitude towards lessening the scourge of graduate unemployment, emphasizing that unlike the NDC, the NPP and other past administration, a PNC-government under his stewardship will institute various pro-poor policies that will provide avenues for job creation so as to empower the youth to lead meaningful lives, rather than engaging in crime related activities.
Dr Mahama, however, asked the youth to act as agents of change by supporting his agenda and also embark on vigorous campaign for the PNC to wrestle power from the NDC in order to take over the mantle of leadership to reawaken their pathetic living conditions.
Dr. Mahama described as insensitivity at its peak the recent astronomical hikes in utility tariffs and fuel prices announced by the regulatory bodies, the PURC and pledged that a Mahama and PNC-led government will strive to reverse the trend and transform the economy.
According to him, another area that has the potential of altering the fortunes of the country is agriculture sector and expressed his desire to give it a major boost if elected as President.
Dr Mahama therefore appealed to Ghanaians, particularly farmers to vote massively for the PNC since agriculture was key among his development agenda.
