The ministry has therefore secured about 1.43 million pounds as a bounty for all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, MMDAs to tackle liquid waste management.
To this end, assemblies with a population of 150 thousand or more are directed to compete in a national challenge by coming up with constructive and innovative ways of dealing with the issue of sanitation at their respective areas.
The new MCE for Bolgatanga, Philip Aboore, who announced this, hinted that the competition will run from June this year to December, 2018 and that the ministry will champion the delivery of the said amount to any of the eligible assemblies.
This, he said, will be done in multiple rounds over a three-and-a-half-year period.
Mr. Aboore was speaking at First Ordinary Meeting of Assembly Members in Bolgatanga.

Few years back, the Upper East Region and for the matter, the Bolgatanga Township was adjudged one of the cleanest cities in the country.
Due to increased population coupled with poor attitude towards sanitation, the region has lost its past glory because filth has engulfed the area with impunity.
In a recent global sanitation report released by the UNICEF, the region was ranked high among the other administrative regions of the country in terms of open defecation.
In the light of this, the region is also confronted with numerous environmental challenges ranging from tree cutting to bush burning.
However, the first ordinary meeting of members of Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly served as a platform to fashion out ways to addressing the growing menace. Apart from other development issues that were brought to fore for discussion, the issue of sanitation took the center stage.
In his sessional address, the new Bolgatanga MCE, Philip Aboore, who was passionate about the situation recounted efforts by the assembly to tackle sanitation.
He disclosed that the assembly is working to renew and strengthen its partnership with Zoomlion Ghana to improve sanitation in the municipality.
He said on the other hand, government through the MLGRD has instituted a reward system, enjoining all assemblies to put in place structures to arrest poor sanitation in their areas.
Interested assemblies are required to submit a draft proposal to the ministry by end of this month.
The proposal, he explained will be subjected to sturdy evaluation for consideration.
Other issues touched by the MCE included the mandate of the district assemblies, revenue mobilisation, payment and collection of property rates, the street naming and property addressing system as well as security and religious tolerance.
On security, the MCE appealed to the leadership of the various political and religious denominations to help expose crime, tolerate each other and most importantly encourage their followers to be wary of their actions and inactions, especially when election approaches.
During an open forum, members of the assembly resolved to elect various chairmen and conveners to assist in the business of the assembly.
They also adopted the resolution on the supply of motorbikes to members by NALAG and proposed the acquisition of quality motorbikes since deduction will be made from the assembly’s common fund.
The only proposal that was thrown out by members was the signing of contracts between Zoomlion Waste Management Limited and Clean Mop, a local based waste management company.
