Radio Ghana's Isaac Asare reports that the
World Vision, an international humanitarian faith-based organisation extended its operation in Ghana in 1979.
Since then, the organisation has worked to transform the lives of vulnerable groups and communities with the aim to tackling extreme poverty and deprivation.
In the face of a major policy shift, World Vision began working through Area Development Programs, ADPs covering a cluster of communities within a district. Currently, WV has ensured the implementation of projects in 31 ADPs in all the ten regions of the country.
In the Upper East Region, WV has made considerable progress in the areas of health, education, food security, child protection, hygiene as well as water and sanitation in its operational areas. Some beneficiary districts include Talensi, Kassena-Nankana West and Garu-Tempane District.
However, the provision of the boreholes for Akara CHPS Compound and Woriyanga Health Centre is in pursuance of World Vision’s integrated community development interventions to support poor and under-served communities.
At an inaugural ceremony in Woriyanga, the Executive Associate to the National Director of WV, Rev. Daniel Salifu, acknowledged that though there was a significant improvement in the available of safe water in the area, poor sanitary practices remain a major challenge.
The water project is an initiative under World Vision’s ‘’WASH for Improved Socio-Economic Empowerment Program geared towards addressing the water safety and access challenges in the district.
The partnership by Voltic Ghana was to therefore compliment the successful implementation of the WASH program.
In a brief remark, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Voltic Ghana, Cyrus DeGraft Johnson lauded the level of partnership with WV, stressing that the collaboration has impacted greatly on the lives of most rural communities especially in the area of health and education and social development.
He recounted some of the achievements made over the last four years.
In a speech read for him, the Chief of Woriyanga, Naba Atariga Akudugu, thanked WV and its partners for the intervention, which he noted, will go a long way to enhance health care delivery in the area.
He promised to ensure the proper use of the facility and work to guarantee its safety.
At the function were stakeholders including revered chiefs and officials from the health sector of the district.
The borehole for Akara CHPS Compound was later commissioned and handed over to staff of the facility.
