Cassius Mining Company Assures Host Community Of Health And Safety



 Management of Cassius Mining Limited, an Australian mining company based in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region has expressed its readiness to work in partnership with communities in its operational area.

The mining firm which is currently undertaking drilling services in exploration for gold ore under required international standards, believe that once people in every aspect of its operations have a role to play in creating a congenial working environment, it will not compromise on their health and safety.

Speaking to Radio Ghana in Bolgatanga, a mining safety expert with Cassius Mining Ltd, Charles Luu, said his outfit takes the issue of safety very seriously because there are risk associated with all forms of mining.

To this background, the company was going to channel its attention to addressing the health needs of the people and also operate an open door administration, where their concerns and propositions would be considered for improved performance.

Mr. Luu said as part of the company’s shared vision of becoming one of the leading mining groups in the West African sub-region, it was further determined to operate with highest standard of industrial practices, taking into consideration the health and safety of both workers and host communities.

He explained that there is nothing more important to mining than ensuring that people stay healthy.

Moreover, productivity is guaranteed when employees work under safe environment and return home from work safely.

On the current happenings relating to the death of small scale miners in its operational area, Mr. Luu said the development highlights the urgent need for mining firms to observe best practices and adhere to mining safety regulations.

He was quick to add that, Cassius Mining as a renowned international company will strive to ensure zero fatalities as enshrined in its safety policy statement, which underscores the overall safety of workers and host communities.

He said in an effort to reduce the risk of fatalities, the company intends to implement a risk management culture.

Additionally, its labour force will be exposed to regular in-house training on health and safety.

Touching on the prospects of the coming in the coming years, the Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Singah, who also spoke with Radio Ghana, announced plans to undertake series of activities at the site to promote environmental cleanliness.

The proposed activities will include a clean-up exercise, community sensitization on health and safety as well as inter-schools sports competition among others.

This, he said will be done with the involvement of community members among relevant stakeholders.

He said the clean-up exercise will be a first step to conscientize the people on the need to exercise sound environmental cleanliness.

Mr. Singah again disclosed plans to undertake developmental projects geared at improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.

This, he assured will be executed in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Cassius Mining Ltd has been operating in the Talensi District for the past three years.

It is a license large scale mining company that is still within the exploration stage.
