The country’s
number one Oil Marketing giant, Ghana Oil Company, GOIL has demonstrated its
renewed commitment to supporting health service delivery by giving 50 hospital
beds to the Upper East Regional Medical Stores for onward distribution to the
various health facilities.
The adjustable beds fitted with mattresses forms
part of the company’s resolve to distribute 1000 beds to major referral
hospitals across the country.
This also is in fulfilment of the company’s corporate
social responsibility as a way of giving back to society.
At a brief presentation
ceremony held in Bolgatanga, the Head of Corporate Affairs at GOIL, Benjamin Ocansey
said his organisation has over the past five yea
He expressed optimism that the beds when properly put
to good use can have immeasurable positive impact on users.
This, he observed
will further correspond to the health improvement of the beneficiary facilities
particularly, CHPs compounds.
Mr. Ocansey said GOIL as an indigenous oil
marketing company does not only take pride in its philanthropic contribution to
ensuring quality health care delivery, it has also paid its dues in advancing the
cause of deprived communities in the
area of water and sanitation as well as education and the promotion of local sports.
He said GOIL believe in the capability of every single Ghanaian and will
continue to actualise its support base to addressing the critical needs of the
poor and less privileged in society.
Also in a brief statement, the Head of PR at
the Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe, thanked management of GOIL for its sense
of responsiveness especially at the time most health facilities are battling
with shortage of beds to cater for their patients.
He said the ministry highly
acknowledges the invaluable role played by GOIL in the health sector and prayed
for their continued in the coming years.
For his part, the Deputy Director of
Health Services in Charge of Clinical Care, Dr Abdul Razak Adakurugu showed
appreciation for the gesture and assured GOIL of management’s determination to
ensure that the beds are equitably distributed to needy facilities to benefit
end users.
He said efforts at achieving universal health coverage for all is a
collective responsibility and that the level of generosity exhibited by GOIL over
the period to closing the growing health infrastructure gap cannot be overlooked.
Dr Adakurugu urged other corporate bodies
to emulate the gesture and support the health sector in the promotion of
quality care for all.
Meanwhile, similar gesture had been extended to other
regions including the Northern and Upper West Regions.
The 1000 beds earmarked
for distribution across the country is estimated at the cost of 1.6 million
Ghana Cedis.
