Veep advocates for religious tolerance for rapid socio-economic growth






Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has given the assurance that the Nana Addo led-administration will see to the successful implementation of all policies promised Ghanaians during the electioneering campaign.

 He said government has laid the necessary foundation for the smooth execution of its proposed policies but will require the support of all to materialise. 

 Dr Bawumia who was addressing a large congregation at the Bolgatanga Central Mosque encouraged the various religious faith to co-exist peacefully since development cannot strive in a divisive society.

 The visit of the Vice Presidents forms part of the second phase of his nationwide Ramadan tour to show appreciation to Ghanaians particularly the Zongo communities for voting the NPP into power. 

 Amidst heavy security presence, the Vice President and his entourage were met on arrival by the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari and other officials from the RCC. 

After exchanging pleasantries, Dr Bawumia proceeded to join his Muslim brothers and sisters at the Bolgatanga central mosque to break the fast of Ramadan. 

He seized the opportunity to pray and worship with the congregation attended by the leadership of the various Muslim sects including the Tijania and Alhassunah Wal-Jamal. 

 In a brief remark, the Regional Minister thanked the Dr Bawumia and his team for the visit. 

He praised government for the steps taken to revive what he described as an ailing economy. 

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his part said government was committed to alleviating the suffering of the masses and will therefore not renege in fulfilling its campaign promises. 

He mentioned the Zongo Development Fund as one of government’s pro-poor interventions tailored towards improving the living conditions of people in the Zongo communities, adding that adequate budgetary allocation has been made towards its implementation this year. 

Dr Bawumia announced that the policy of free senior high school education will official commence in September. Additionally,  the Nurses and Teacher Trainee allowances will be restored  in the same period. 

He said government is also keen to providing jobs for the youth but all these interventions could only be achieved when there is continuous peace among all religious faith. 

He however called on Muslims and Christians to support the cause of government in the roll out of such interventions. 

Dr Bawumia later gave some unspecified amounts to the leadership of the various Muslim sects to assist them have a successful Ramadan fast. 


He also donated sets of Quran and Five thousand Ghana cedis to the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Adams  and his people to support the development of the central mosque which is still under construction. 

The Vice President is scheduled to visit the Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions, during which he will join the faithful to pray for Ghana as they undertake the fast of the holy Ramadan.
