UNICEF presents motorbikes and other items to U/E Regional Health Directorate to boost health service delivery

The Upper East Regional Health Directorate has taken delivery of 9 AG Yamaha motorbikes and computers from UNICEF to augment and support quality health service delivery in the region. The items valued at the cost of fifty thousand dollars forms part of UNICEF’s commitment to support the health sector in its effort towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5. The item which includes scanners and colour printers with cartridges is expected to enhance effort of health staff with regards to knowledge management and data collection. The motorbikes on the other hand will assist health care providers reach out to vulnerable women and children living in hard to reach areas of the region. Presenting the items in Bolgatanga on behalf of UNICEF, the Chief of Health and Nutrition, UNICEF-Ghana, Victor Ngongalah said UNICEF was ready to partner any institution interested in bringing quality health to the doorstep of the people. He noted that UNICEF as an organisation had been supporting the GHS in its quest to reaching out to the poor and vulnerable in society and will continue to bring hope to the needy. UNICEF he revealed is responsible for the chunk of motorbikes used by health facilities in the region, adding that more will be considered in the coming years to assist health professionals, particularly, those manning the various CHP zones discharge their duties with ease.  Mr Ngongalah entreated the regional health directorate to take ownership of the items and ensure their good use to benefit majority of the people. The Deputy Regional Director of Health Services, Mr Lucio Dery, acknowledged the contribution of UNICEF towards achieving the MDGs. Mr Dery on behalf of his management team thanked UNICEF for the gesture. He also pledged to put the items to optimal use.
