Assembly hands over projects to beneficiary communities


Officials of the Talensi-Nabdam District Assembly has completed and handed over an ultra modern CHPS Compound to the chiefs and people of Balungu in the Upper East Region. The facility which is the first of its kind to be cited in the area is poised to serve not only the people of the area but other nearby communities including Yinduri, Shia, Winkogo , Pwalugu and parts of Naga and Kologo among others. The project is being financed by the Canadian Development Agency (CIDA), with support from the district assembly is valued at GH¢ 51,000. Handing over the project, the Talensi-Nabdam District Chief Executive, Mrs. Vivian Anarfo who led a team of officials to the site said the idea of the project was to bring quality health service delivery to the doorstep of the people and encourage staff who are yet to be posted to man the facility to ensure that the project get value for its money.  The overall aim of the project she added was to ensure that pregnant women and children have access to basic health care in order to meet the MDG 4-5, which is targeted at reducing maternal and child mortality ratio in achieving a universal access to reproductive health by 2015. She said though the facility hopes to improve the health status of the people, its lifespan depends on the beneficiaries, and therefore measures must be put in place to ensure its proper care and maintenance. Mrs. Anarfo assured the people of the assembly’s continuous support and urged them to adapt to healthy lifestyles to prevent diseases. The District Director of Health Services, Madam Rosemond Azure on behalf of the Regional Health Directorate, used the opportunity to express her gratitude to the financiers of the project and advised the beneficiary communities to put the facility into its proper use. She hinted that personnel and minimal equipments would be provided to cater for the facility and that the district assembly should redouble its effort in assisting the facility with other workable tools to improve health care delivery in the area.  She advised the people to make it a point to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme and expressed the hope that difficulties in accessing NHIS would be a thing of the past since a point would be provided to cater for its registration. The Traditional Chief of the Area, Nana Atia Alebtanga who was full of praise to the assembly also commended the Mills administration for given them a woman as a DCE. According to him, the community since the assumption of office of the DCE has benefited from a number of projects   including 3 boreholes, a dam and school infrastructure among other amenities and encouraged the DCE to focus on her development agenda for the communities, and that Balungu Traditional Council was ready to assist her in developing the area. The official team later commissioned a Nurses quarters facility for the people of Winkogo and its catchment area at the cost of GH¢55,000. The said facility is to provide residential accommodation to some health staff manning the Winkogo health centre. A similar facility valued at the cost of GH¢32,000 was also completed and handed over to staff of the Presbyterian Primary Health Care Clinic at Namolgo/Tindogo in the Tongo East Sub-district. The facility is financed through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and has the Community Based Rural Development Project as the supporting donor agency. A senior nursing officer, Madam Mary Dagero thanked the assembly for the gesture and appealed to other benevolent organizations to complement the efforts of the assembly by providing them with other medical equipments. She also appealed for additional staff quarters and a borehole to augment their activities.
