Basic and SHSs in Bongo to benefit from GETfund projects

10-08-14
Nine school projects funded by the GETFund and estimated to cost 5.6 million Ghana Cedis have taken off in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. These include classroom accommodation, dormitories, dining hall facilities and staff bungalows among others for some basic and Senior High Schools, SHSs.  The Bongo District Chief Executive, DCE, Mr. Alexis Ayamdor, who led a team of officials to officially hand over the project sites to designated contractors noted that the various projects formed part of government’s efforts targeted at expanding educational infrastructure throughout the country.  Among the team were staff of the Upper East Regional Economic Planning Unit, staff of District Education Directorate and the consultant to the projects, A & Q. S Consortium Ltd among other functionaries.  Mr. Ayamdor said government acknowledges that it is the right of every Ghanaian child of school-going-age to attend school in a decent environment for quality education and urged parents to take advantage of the expanded educational facilities to enroll their children in school.  The DCE urged the contractors to put up their best since enough resources have been pulled together to ensure the successful completion of  the projects. He further asked them to work according to the specifications and times lines as stipulated in the contract documents and further warned that the contractors cited for shoddy work will have their contracts abrogated. He urged the chiefs and people in the various project communities to help guard against theft of project materials and also support the contractors to do a good job. He appealed to the contractors to employ local artisans such as masons and carpenters as well as other forms of labour from within the local communities. A leading consultant to A & Q.S Consortium Ltd, Mr. Ben Darko, pledged that his firm will regularly visit the project sites to ensure that the right proportions of materials and proper safety measures are incorporated into the construction works and also update the DCE on the progress of work. He said majority of the projects had an 18 month period within which or before which all works are to be completed for handing over to the user institutions. Beneficiary schools include Soe SHS, Gowrie SHS/Technical , Zorkor SHS, Azeem-Namoo SHS and Beo T.I Ahmadiyya KG and Primary School. Project meant for the basic schools will be completed within six months.
