New edifice |
World Vision Ghana, WV, has commissioned an ultra modern office
complex at Sirigu in the Kassena-West District of the Upper East Region at the
cost of 152 thousand Ghana Cedis. The provision of the new edifice which
has a conference room, 4 offices, 2 washrooms 4 and a centre for children
activities will enhance the work of World Vision in the Kassena-Nankana Development
Area. Additionally, staff and partners of WV will now have enough space to
operate to promote the wellbeing of the poor and marginalized in society,
particularly children. WV since
2008 has been operating in the Kassena-Nankana West District without a
permanent office. In view of this Afrikids, a child right NGO extended its hand
of friendship by sharing their office with them. However, the provision of the
new office complex gives a sigh of relief as staff and partners of WV has for
years managed to work with limited space, which undoubtedly affected their work output.
Commissioning the project, the National Director of WV, Charles Hubert,
commended management of Afrikids Ghana for their show of partnership. He said
WV hopes to contribute to measurable improvement in the wellbeing of over 6
million young men and women and families across 31 districts of the country by
2015. In line with the set objective, WV has improved the lives of poor and
needy students through its educational interventions for deprived communities
of which Kassena-Nankana is a beneficiary. Through its training support
programme, Parent Teacher-Association and School Management Committees,
PTA/SMCs have become functional and are able to mobilize funds from
parents and also engage assemblies and the GES to provide enough teaching
and learning materials for their school. Mr Hubert further stated that his
outfit has reached out to about 36 thousand people and households through its
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, Programme. This, he noted, has resulted in
households’ water coverage in programme impact area increasing from 58 percent
in 2008 to 98 percent as at May 2014. Mr Hubert thanked its development
partners including revered chiefs of the area for their invaluable support.
Special commendation was given to Chief of Sirigu, Naba Isaac Asinsagbo Mbobo,
for providing land for the construction of the office complex. The
Kassena-Nankana West DCE, George Nontera, was grateful to WV for transforming
the lives of the vulnerable through its project interventions and called for
additional support in the area of boreholes. He said the assembly was ready to
commit the needed resources for the construction of the boreholes. The
Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Syme with the support of other dignitaries
including the Human Resource Director of WV, Nassib Rahhal, later cut the sod
to officially commission the project. Also present was the Kassena-Nankana
Operational Base Team Leader, Benedicta Pealore among other officials from WV
headquarters in Accra.
