The allocation of 15 vehicles by government has been officially handed over to selected schools in the Upper East Region.

These include ten Eicher 33 and 66 seater buses and five pickups.

Some of the beneficiary schools are Zuarungu SHS, Bawku SHS, Sirigu GHS, Paga SHS, Chiana SHS, and St Bernadette SHS in Navrongo.

Others include Gbeogo School for the deaf, St. John Bosco's College of Education, Bolgatanga Polytechnic and Gbewaa College of Education.

Spearheaded by the RCC, the vehicles are to support the education sector, thereby assisting staff and management of the beneficiary schools to carry out their duties effectively.

President John Dramani Mahama on June 14 presented a number of vehicles to public and private sector educational institutions throughout the country.

The vehicles were meant for colleges of education, polytechnics as well as technical universities and special schools.

The provision of the vehicles therefore comes as a token to enhance quality education.

At a symbolic presentation held in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo said despite government’s intervention to improve transportation in educational institutions, most schools in the region still lack means of transport to facilitate the movement of both students and staff.

He said beneficiary schools stand to benefit from the gesture since it has always been the desire of government to give Ghana’s educational sectors a major boost.

He charged the beneficiary schools to ensure its regular maintenance to prolong their lifespan.

On behalf of the schools, the Regional Public Relations Officer for Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS, Thomas Awiah praised government for its sense of responsiveness.

Mr. Awiah, who is also the head teacher for Sirigu SHS said his outfit will be most appreciative if government resolve to give to other needy schools, stressing that previous ones given to beneficiary schools in the region have broken down and needed to be replaced.

He however, called for additional support and pledged to see to the proper maintenance of the vehicles.
