Upper East have had its fair share of development : NDC react to NPPs claims

The Regional Executive body of the NDC in the Upper East has debunked assertions by the NPP that seem to create the erroneous impression that the postponement of the President's intended visit to the region was deliberate because there is nothing to commission.

At a press conference held in Bolgatanga, the Regional Secretary of the party, Donatus Akamugri rubbished the said allegation, noting that such claims are unsubstantiated and lacks basic evidential ingredients to be considered as true and factual.

For him, there are numerous projects earmarked to be commissioned by the President, stressing that the President is national in character, and for his schedule to coincide with any international assignment that seeks to attract donor support and direct foreign investments, certainly he may have to attend such equally important functions before attending to other local issues.

Mr Akamugri further explained that the Vice President's inability to grace last year's farmers day celebration held in the region was partly due to poor weather condition, which could not allow his aircraft to take off and land based on  poor  visibility on the said date.

He said if the NPP wants to mislead the people by politicizing such issues, then the NPP has to give an account as to why former President Kufuor did not partake in the 2002 Independence Day celebration.

According to Akamugri, it was also out of place for the NPP to think that the President and the ruling government has deserted the people of the Upper East Region.

He advised that what the NPP ought to be concerned about was to work towards providing practical solutions to its current misfortunes and not cast insinuations and  false allegations.

He stated that in a bid to ensuring equitable distribution of development across the country, a lot had been achieved in the region under President Mahama considering his proven track record in the area of social interventions and other developmental projects.

Giving a breakdown of the achievements of President Mahama, Mr Akamugri, hinted that the region had so far been provided with 324 boreholes under the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project.

Under the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty, LEAP, programme, a whooping two million, seven hundred and fifty four thousand, 810, Ghana Cedis  had been paid to over 49 beneficiaries, whilst  there has been a significant expansion of the Ghana School Feeding Programme,GSFP, to cover not less than 20 schools in each district.

Additionally, registration of one hundred and forty seven thousand, 315 pupils  is currently ongoing.

On education, Mr Akamugri highlighted numerous completed and ongoing school infrastructure in most senior high and technical schools in the region.

Key among the project is the E-community school project in the Builsa South which is 90 percent complete.

He mentioned projects undertaken in the areas of health, employment and road networks. in reacting to questions posed by the media, Mr Akamugri said the Bolga-Bawku road which has for years been a major source of concern to residents of the region has received priority attention as contract has been awarded to a Brazilian contractor to execute the project.

The project, he assured is scheduled to kick-start in earnest.  A staunch member of the party, Paul Danka in an interview told Radio Ghana that the  unprecedented achievements under the ruling government cannot be glossed over and is therefore poised to leave a blueprint for  successive government's to emulate.
