Bolgatanga : Two robbers shot dead in a fierce shoot-out with police



Two persons among a gang of four armed robbers operating within and outside the Bolgatanga Municipality were yesterday shot and killed by Police in a tight shoot-out. 

The other two who managed to escape with gunshot wounds are currently at large. In an interview with Radio Ghana in Bolgatanga, the Regional Police Commander DCOP Simon Yao Afeku said the Police came into contact with the said robbers after being smoked out from their hideouts in an uncompleted building on a rocky hill enclave at Tanzui, a suburb of Bolgatanga. 

This, he said was based upon a tip-off. DCOP Afeku disclosed that the deceased, one identified at Alemina were pronounced dead shortly on arrival at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Bodies of the two are currently deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.  

The other two who also sustained some gun wounds, managed to escape with their AK 47 Riffles. One of the two escapees is believed to be the leader of the notorious gang.
 
The gang is believed to be the cause of series of attacks including as motorbike snatching and highway robberies within Bolgatanga and its environs. 

Alemina, is believed to be among the robbers that perpetuated an attack on a Burkinabe DAF Truck at Bukere, on May 13, 2016.  

In the course of the attack, they shot and killed the driver, injured his mate, and made away with their belongings including a substantial amount of money.
 
They are also alleged to have masterminded at attack at the Zamse Senior High-Technical School, where they attacked the security man on duty on the July 1, 2016 and in the process shot him in the lower abdomen. 

 In this latest attack, the police were able to retrieve from the scene of incident, one locally manufactured pistol, a large number of AK47 empty shells, a Military Cap and T-shirt, four screw drivers, one Police whistle, 10 mobile phones, a double edged machete, as well as a Laptop computer believed to belong to a Police woman.  

Jewelleries, a flat screen TV set and a decoder was also found. Most often than not, when criminals escape with gunshot wounds, they resort to health facilities, shrines and   Traditional Healing Centres for medication.  

To this effect, DCOP Simon Afeku appealed to Traditional Healers to be on the lookout for suspicious elements when they confront them for any support and subsequently alert the police for prompt action.  

He warned individuals and groups that harbour criminals and asked them to desist from the act.
DCOP Afeku said the Police is not relenting in its effort to deal with crime related activities in the region and that it was working hard to deploy all legitimate means with available resources at their disposal to fight crime. 

 He, however appealed for the support of all in exposing criminals and their nefarious operations.
DCOP Afeku said the Police was also working hard to ensure the safety and security of the public, so as to enable them have a congenial atmosphere to go about their normal daily activities. 

The Police Commanders has assured the public that, the Police is working hard to protect lives and property in the region and will want to residents to continue supporting the Police with information to enable them flash out criminals from society.
