Christian faith joins orthodox Muslims to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr

The Upper East Region today saw hundreds of orthodox Muslims converging on the NAFAC grounds in Bolgatanga to mark the end of Ramadan.  Other Muslim sects including the Ahmadis, Tijanias, and  Alhasuna-wal Jamal also took turns to climax the period at separate venues.

It is a belief that on this day occasion, Muslims are imbued with virtues exhibited by the Holy Prophet Mohammed on his days on earth.

These are embedded in the tenets of honesty, dedication to work and serve, purity of heart, as well as commitment to the needs of the poor and the disadvantaged.

Addressing the congregation, the Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo reminded all Muslims to adhere strictly to the virtues of the holy prophet and be inspired with the spirit of unity and social belonging to be able to resist all temptations.

He, however, implored the Muslim youth to refrain from all negative tendencies to change the long held perception that Zongo Youth are noted for, especially with reference to political activities.

Mr Abongo further urged Ghanaians irrespective of party affiliation not to resort to act that could inflame passion and end up in violence.

In attendance were dignitaries including the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Dr Robert Kuganab-Lem and the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Afeku among other functionaries.

All present were other religious faith to share in the joy of their Muslim brothers and sisters.

In an interview with Radio Ghana's Isaac Asare, the Vicar General of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, Rev Father Gabriel Atidor commended the peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims and called for renewed effort in cementing this sense of brotherliness.

Rev. Father Atidor seized the opportunity to caution the youth against selfish politicians who are bent on using them to foment trouble during elections.

Prayers were later said to thank God for a successful fasting season and also His blessing and guidance as the country gears up for the upcoming polls.

The prayer was Ied by the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Adams.
