29-04-09 BAWKU WEST REJECTS PRESIDENT’S NOMINEE
Members of the Bawku West District Assembly have failed to endorsed, Imoro Adam Anaba, the President’s nominee for district Chief Executive at Zebilla in the upper East Region. Mr. Anaba, who needed twenty nine votes, polled 21 votes out of 41 votes cast. After failing to get the required votes, the Regional Electoral Officer, Mr. Godwin Tawia Okley, who supervised the elections, called for re-election in ten days time. During the Presiding Member elections, Albert Avoka, a social worker and assembly member for Guzeisi Electoral area stepped down for his opponent, Mr. Moses Aduk -Pam ,a teacher by profession after the first round of voting. In the first round of voting, Mr. Aduk –Pam polled 27 votes whilst Avoka polled 14 votes out of the 41 votes cast. At the second round of voting, Mr. Aduk- Pam polled 38 out of the 41 votes cast. He was therefore declared as the Presiding Member for the assembly. At the Kassena – Nankana East District Assembly also in the Upper East Region, members have confirmed Emmanuel Andema, President’s nominee as District Chief Executive. All 30 elected and appointed assembly members voted for Mr. Andema giving him hundred per cent. Mr. Andema in an acceptance speech thanked the members for the honour done him and pledged to work solidly behind them to enhance the well being of the people in the area and the region as a whole. The Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo commended the assembly for exhibiting high sense of maturity. He therefore urged them to put aside their political differences and tackle the daunting challenges that face the people of the district.
