01-12- 09 STUDENTS URGED TO ESCHEW “GET RICH QUICK” ATTITUTE
Fresh students of Bawku Senior High School have been advised to eschew certain vices such as internet fraud popularly known as “SAKAWA”, Occultism, gangsterism, and sexual promiscuity among other negative activities since these can derail their educational pursuits at all levels. The Bawku Municipal NCCE Director, P.P Apaabey Baba gave the advice when he was addressing 509 fresh students of the school admitted for the 2009/2010 academic year at Bawku. Mr Apaabey urged the students to contribute in diverse ways to ensuring that peace prevails in Bawku. This, he said, can be done through consensus and peace building. Pointing at avenues towards peace building in the school system, Mr. Apaabey mentioned the various social and civic clubs and urged each student to belong to at least one of them. He also used the occasion to educate the students on their civic, rights duties and responsibilities as citizens of the country. Mr. Apaabey asked the students to discard all ethnic and political affiliations at their level, but rather foster unity among themselves, so as to promote peace, law and order. He reiterated the need for students to be abreast with the 1992 constitution since it guarantees their fundamental human rights and responsibilities. Mr. Apaabey stated that the nation is mandated to provide educational facilities at all levels and in all regions of Ghana and to make such facilities available to all citizens, governments has put in place policy interventions to enhance and improve the level of education in the country. The Guidance and Counselling Co-ordinator of the school, Mr. Maurice Milu assured the students of adequate support, protection and security in Bawku and advised them to stick to the rules and regulations governing the school. He also commended the close collaborative efforts in the area of peace building between the school and the NCCE over the years.
