A 22- Member Planning Committee of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council has been duly inaugurated at Bolgatanga. The committee which has its membership drawn from a wide spectrum of professionals a and Interest Groups from academia, the Public and Private Sector, Non-Governmental Organizations, Traditional authorities, the Media among others had been set up to cater and plan for the region’s upcoming golden jubilee celebration slated for next year. In an address, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo said the then Upper Region which was created out of the then Northern Region has reached a significant milestone which deserves to be celebrated in a grand style adding that the event as envisioned, will offer the region the opportunity to showcase its achievements and potentials since its inception about 50 years ago. Mr. Woyongo stated that the inauguration of the planning committee will make for all-inclusive and holistic planning towards projecting the rich potentials and achievement s of the region to the outside world. He also noted that the region which has had its fair share of the national cake has great potentials in large scale and urged all and sundry to discard perception associated with deprivation, poverty, misery, and violent conflicts of the region to the outside world. Mr. Woyongo therefore entreat the committee to submit its report in two months time so that they can have adequate time for preparation since it is not a government sponsored programme. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Donald Adabere thanked the Regional Minister for the confidence repose in him and called for total collaboration of all committee members to explore every avenue to ensure that the event is celebrated with pomp and pageantry.
