03-12-09 PNC CONGRATULATES FARMERS AND FISHERMEN
The Upper East Regional Secretariat of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has sent a congratulatory message to all Ghanaian farmers and fishermen across the country for their immense role and contribution towards national development as they celebrates the 25th anniversary of this year’s national farmers day schedule to take place in Tamale on Friday December, 4 ,2009. The Regional Secretary of the party, Henry Fatchu, who disclosed this in a release signed, said the message is in solidarity and appreciation of the hard work and efforts in which farmers and fishermen have feed the nation and industries and thereby helping to improve upon the nutritional diet which would have had harmful effect on the Ghanaian labour force. The release further stated that this year’s farmers day celebration under the theme: “Accelerated Agricultural Moderation for Food and Security and Economic Transformation” is an indication to the fact that the agricultural sector has contributed greatly to the Ghanaian economy and can be the engine of growth and poverty reduction only if the government formulates and implement the right policies within the right institutional framework. It noted that despite the enormous role farmers and fishermen play in the contest of socio-economic environment, they are still entangled with poverty and misery. The release is therefore called on the government as a matter of urgency to replicate the policies that has lead to the increased in cocoa production to those of the food crop farmers so that they can meet the desired turnaround of the global food challenge. This, the release said, can help alleviate their plight and also serve as a motivational package to increase their food production.
