24-11-09 Government to Establish Junior Farm Fields and Life Schools In All Districts-Minister
Government is collaborating with other agencies towards the establishment of Junior Farm Field and Life Schools (JFFLS)) in the various district of the country. In the rural areas under the scheme, young people ages 12-18 years would be taken through training programmes with particular attention to local agricultural skills with modern focus. Graduates from the school will form the cadre corps fro the modernization of agriculture. The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Lucy Awuni who made the disclosure at the launch of KERAPA, the National Youth and Adolescent Network on Population and Development at Bolgatanga said the scheme would go along way to help tackle the problem of unemployment among the youth since government is committed to placing the youth at the core of its polices and initiatives in order to restore hope in them. In view of this government also hopes to invest in the youth and fill them with a sense of belonging such that they would be committed to the ‘Better Ghana’ all Ghanaian are yearning for. Mrs. Awuni also urged the youth to embrace ICT education to help accelerate the development process of the country as government its desire to ensure that all school going persons acquires basic knowledge and skills in ICT in the realization of attaining a middle income status by the year 2020, is adopting an ICT-led economy to help transform the socio-economic fortunes of the country. The Regional Chairman, KERAPA, Hillary Adongo said, despite the daunting challenges facing the youth, their empowerment have been relegated to the background though they constitute the nation’s entire workforce and remain the majority in more than two third of the African Continent. He described the theme of the occasion” Sustainability: Our Challenge, Our Future as appropriate and urged the government to work to secure the future of the youth by making sustainable government policies and programmes and institutions which according to him involves all players in the development agenda of the youth. Mr Adongo commended the local and other international youth organizations in the country for their immense contribution to youth empowerment. Executives from the KERAPA youth group answered questions from participants during an open forum.
