The Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni has outlined some of her vision for the Region. She said one of her major goals is to help elevate the quality of life of the people in the region particularly women through education, agriculture, health, increase incomes and poverty reduction. In an interview with Radio Ghana, Mrs. Awuni noted that as an educationist, she will liaise with the Regional Minister to achieve his developmental goals. She stated that the education of the girl child, employment creation and women empowerment are some of her major priorities. Mrs. Awuni, pointed out that despite the role women play in the socio-economic development of the country, they are sidelined and often ignored, adding that her outfit will seek to help support women and empower them in all spheres and also make them effective advocates. In view of this, Mrs. Awuni emphasized that her outfit will focus on areas that will create immediate impact on the lives of women in the region. She pledged to embark on a number of corporate programmes including the establishment of viable income generating activities for women. Meanwhile, Mrs. Awuni who was earlier introduced to the staff of the Bolgatanga Regional Coordinating Council at the Residency underscored the need for the staff to support them in the performance of their duties.
